The affect of personal characteristics on negotiation Essay

The effect of individual qualities on arrangement - Essay Example For example, Miles, Hatfield and Huseman (1989) distinguished a range of people who have diverse value inclinations. That is the reason in arrangements it could be absurd to cling carefully to Adams' 'standard of value', since bargainers' view of consider the possibility that 'reasonable' might be subjective. There exist two ways to deal with purchaser dealer experiences in writing (Bazerman et al., 2000; Barry and Friedman, 1998): agreeable as well as critical thinking approach, and distributive or potentially serious. The principal type, referred to likewise as integrative methodology, assumes compromise, incorporation, and data trade among purchasers and merchants (Bazerman et al., 2000; Barry and Friedman, 1998; Pruitt, 1981). The serious or distributive methodology includes dangers and over the top requests, looks to win concessions at the partner's cost (Barry and Friedman, 1998; Perdue and Summers, 1991). Miles, Hatfield and Huseman (1987) remained that value affectability is an individual contrast that impact how people respond to imbalance. Value affectability is an 'individual's impression of what is and what isn't value and afterward utilizes that data to make forecasts about responses to disparity' (King, Miles and Day 1993, p.135). For instance, on the one finish of the continuum there are the benevolents, or 'providers' who express high fulfillment according to others when their yield/input proportions are not exactly the examination other; they have higher capacity to bear under-reward. Likewise at mid-go there are the value sensitives, who most intently stick to the customary standard of value (where information sources and yields are adjusted) (Allen and White, 2002). On the opposite finish of the continuum are 'takers', who are most fulfilled when they get a bigger number of results than inputs (King, Miles and Day, 1993). As indicated by King, Miles and Day (1993), conside rate mediators, or 'suppliers', won't give more contributions, in contrast with their yields, to their partners. In the exchanges these sources of info show up through sharing data, making concessions changes, and talking about inclinations among bartering parties, which are basic components of the agreeable critical thinking system. Entitleds, or 'takers' center around themselves and the results, and are bound to make a move to redress any awkwardness in the info/yield apportion when contrasted with their partners (Allen and White, 2002; Miles, Hatfield and Huseman, 1989). In the arrangement procedure entitleds are probably going to be less helpful than their partners. So that, it could be relied upon the accompanying systems to happen: H1: Benevolent arbitrators will show more agreeable practices than entitled mediators. Since they are increasingly worried about the results of the dealing movement and are bound to follow the agreeable way of conduct, they place higher significance to intristic results, for example, collaboration (King, Miles and Day, 1993). Accordingly, a positive association exists between value affectability and mediators' view of their helpful behavi

Of Mice and Men Intro and Conc

Acquaintance and end with ‘of mice and men’ exposition Introduction My subject of this article is ‘How John Steinbeck builds up the character of Lennie all through the novel’ My first point is that Steinbeck creates Lennie’s character every now and again all through the novel anyway there are times where Lennie doesn’t create at all, for example, when he says ‘im going to tend the rabbits’ again and again this shows how Lennie hasn’t created and props up on about something very similar and shows no change at all. Also the way that Lennie is depicted as a kid connects to this as kids consistently bluster for something again and again another statement to show this would be ‘an im going to live off the fatta the land’ which shows that Lennie has expectations and dreams like a youngster does. This reality connects to the point that John Steinbeck likes kids a great deal and says that youngsters have a feeling of str ength so this is possibly why Steinbeck has chosen to depict the character of Lennie thusly. ConclusionOverall I feel that John Steinbeck has built up the character of Lennie ordinarily all through the novel and basically this connects to the ‘Lacan reflect theory’ which shows that youngsters possibly truly express their genuine personalities when they see themselves without precedent for a mirror and this reality connects to Lennie as he doesn’t realize how strong he can actually be until he smashes Curley’s hand this shows Lennie doesn’t know himself quite well and subsequently shows improvement in his character as he is getting increasingly free and striking yet there are likewise times where he changes into a kid again.Lastly I might want to state that there have been different advancements in Lennie’s character and John Steinbeck has done them in an organized manner.

Music Essays | Traditional Irish Ireland

Music Essays | Traditional Irish Ireland Customary Irish Ireland Before talking about the settings behind the improvement of conventional Irish music and the subsequent name, it is critical to characterize what is really implied by the name â€Å"traditional†. Normally, likewise with most fine arts the definition contrasts between entertainers/artists/scholars. The prime factor however is commonly having some note old enough. Similarly as with much music marked â€Å"traditional†, Irish music has a lot of history behind it and the music we perceive today under this classification takes its underlying foundations from an a lot more established type of music. Numerous references to Irish/Celtic music have even been named as â€Å"ancient†. Again these terms alone would require an article in themselves to characterize what the comprehension of them is. As a students of history meaning of â€Å"ancient history† is a period before put down accounts and correspondence it is practically difficult to decide how old certain soci eties and their melodic foundations are. Irish music could fall into this conversation albeit many would contend this to be even too old to ever be customary and that the genuine conventional music of Ireland is the music of the harpists. A custom that has everything except ceased to exist in quite a bit of what we class as conventional Irish music today. In review, the music which ran close by this music is similarly as â€Å"traditional†. This is music which was played among the general network in Ireland, music which was played in houses and bars. These were where numerous individuals could accumulate to play â€Å"amateur† music on instruments, for example, Fiddles, Pipes, Flutes and whistles, which at the time didn't have the higher status of Harp players who as a rule played for the higher class of society. This is the music which has formed into what most consider as Irish conventional music today. In numerous regards, they are not off-base in spite of the fact that it has been changed and created as it were, which bids to more individuals and could likewise be portrayed as Irish â€Å"popular† music, one more term that makes a lot of conversation with regards to its actual implications. ‘Riverdance’ and ‘Lord of the Dance’ are prime instances of this. Albeit many would venture to state that they have no likeness of Irish customary music by any stretch of the imagination, this is the music that has gotten known as conventional and Irish. The story behind Riverdance particularly, bares some similarity to life in Ireland in the eighteenth and nineteenth hundreds of years. It rotates around the regular day to day existence of Irish individuals and networks, and even the music has solid associations with the music played at that point, in spite of the fact that has been created to speak to a more extensive scope of audience members and specifically, watchers. This leads me onto the History behind the music, and its effect on how the music created to what is perceived today. The conventional music of Ireland goes back to medieval Europe. In early medieval period Ireland, was not a brought together nation but rather, broken into four families who shared equivalent principle of the nation. This was additionally the cases in numerous nations of Medieval Europe. The individuals of Ireland were plummeted from numerous different societies all through Europe including England, Scotland, Wales, Gaelic Europe (France, Germany) and Scandinavia. Doubtlessly however, that the music played today which we name as conventional developed in the 1700’s. The 1700’s were a violent time for the Irish. This was the period when the old Gaelic nobility, who were for a considerable length of time the benefactors of the artists and artists of Ireland, were seized of their impact and homes. The disappointment of the two Jacobite uprisings in Scotland denoted the start of a time of exceptional oppression of Gaelic Scotland. It was right now that the way of life of Gaelic Scotland and Gaelic Ireland were part separated, and from this time forward viewed as isolated elements. Up to this time, they had been viewed as a solitary culture. It could be contended that conventional Irish music is identified with music discovered somewhere else in Europe. A great deal of Irish performers would concur that today there absolutely is a relationship with the music of Scotland and the north of England. This demonstrates such connections may have existed before in history and potentially all through the 1700’s. This makes it attainable to seek different nations in Europe for a thought on what was going on at that point. Similarly, there is the contention that the Gaels had their own indigenously inferred music, which was extraordinary and not associated with what was happening anyplace else in Europe. The two focuses, I think are somewhat outrageous and that the real answer lies some place in the middle of the two. One occasion isolates us from having next to zero information at all. In 1792 Edward Bunting, was employed to decipher the music of various harpers who showed up at a celebration in Belfast. This celebration had been supported by an early case of what we currently call the classicist development. These were individuals who accepted that Gaelic culture was being decimated, and needed to spare it before it might be past the point of no return. One of the harpers who turned up in Belfast was Denis Hempson. He, to the extent we know was the last living conventional Gaelic harpist, playing with fingernails on a wire-hung harp. The various harpers, in spite of the fact that their tunes were Irish, played gut-hung harps that were equivalent to those somewhere else in Europe, and their playing styles likewise depended on European styles. So its to the astonishing assurance of Hempson and the commitment of Bunting that we owe an enormous piece of our insight about pre-1700s music in Ireland. In any case, we need to recall this was completely sifted through, first Hempson, and afterward, Bunting, who couldnt play the harp. Move, obviously now shapes an enormous bit of what has gotten known as Irish conventional music. In Irish music, we end up with a couple of conventional move meters. The Hornpipe, the Jig and the Reel. Obviously, these are generally viewed as the â€Å"big three† as far as Irish conventional music. Others did and still exist, as we probably am aware, the music from Ireland takes it’s roots from numerous different societies in Europe, there is no exemption with the types of move. Lets take reels first as they might be most straightforward to manage. The normal explanation is that The reel came to Ireland in the 1700-1800s from Scotland. This depends on the well established certainty that early Irish productions don't show a lot of reels contrasted with dances and we additionally realize that gratitude to the concurrence of the Scottish support framework and moderate distributing costs; there was a blast of reel organization going on in Scotland as of now. Take a gander at the present Irish reel collection and you will think that its shot through with Scottish arrangements. Actually I acknowledge that the reel in Irish music owes a suffering obligation to the Scottish convention. The dance seems to have had a more prominent notoriety in Ireland before the reel (which is altogether different to stating it is more seasoned than the reel). OFarrells 1804 assortment (clearly got on a collection from at any rate the late 1700s) highlights a decent number of dances, a considerable lot of which are still effectively played today. There are contentions for putting the slip dance as a more established structure. The Single Jig and Slide are timing accentuation variations of the twofold dance, and there is some proof to show that they may have gotten from the last mentioned and in this manner be later. With respect to the twofold dance and its development in its cutting edge structure, this contention was completed in a printed trade between Breandã ¡n Breathnach and Declan Townsend in the mid 1970s. The last kept up that the musicality got from Carolans pieces of Gigas, the type of which he gained from the Italian arranger Correlli. Townsend refered to supporting pro of on the dance execution of Donegal fiddlers, which hardly any today would bolster. The previous, writing in the article Tã ºs a Poirt in Éireann (the source of the dance in Ireland; showing up in Irish Folk Music Studies, Vol. 1) challenges this and recommends in addition to other things they might be founded on more established tunes, for example, faction walks which have had their speed modified marginally. In an English language outline, Breandan composes: The dance most presumably came to Ireland from England, maybe as ahead of schedule as the sixteenth Century. Local walks were adjusted for moving, a few tunes obtained from England and a beginning made on creating those tunes which established the best single division of the move music until reels started to get up to speed with them in the second 50% of the only remaining century. Unquestionably, I have found, by playing and tuning in to much â€Å"traditional† music from Ireland that I have wound up knowing the tune either in an alternate time mark, speed or a somewhat adjusted structure. Indeed, even to the degree of knowing words to the tune, which more likely than not will be not Irish. Regardless of whether they were created in England, Ireland or Scotland first, we don't have the foggiest idea and I might not want to advance a hypothesis concerning which it might be. The hornpipes have been contended as a later appearance with certain signs of England as a source. All the more as of late it is being contended that this mood specifically has been prevalently spread through productions with a good measure of proof in the convention to help this. The thought of the exhibition timing of the hornpipe-the topic of spotted or un-dabbed playing has all the earmarks of being completely a nearby issue dependent on the neighborhood move custom necessities. Its more slow speed gives the player substantially more time to endeavor all the more in fact testing exhibitions of this sort piece, along these lines the lots of triplets and the troublesome (level) keys. As such hornpipes were in some cases played away from the moving condition as a demonstration of virtuosity. With an end goal to build up virtuosity note understanding players (generally the more officially prepared and adjusted to old style based procedures) were on edge t

Ernest Hemingway: a Farewell to Arms Essay

Is war at any point supported? War has been a piece of our general public since the get-go. A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway is a novel that manages the avocation and pledge to World War I. Frederic Henry, an American rescue vehicle driver for the Italians, battled to discover the appropriate response and wound up loosing his pledge to the war due to words and guidance from the cleric and his affection for Catherine Barkley. He wound up fleeing from the war to be with his pregnant sweetheart Catherine. Henry’s responsibility to the war isn’t certified. As Henry and the cleric examined who was winning the war right now and different subjects, they expressed, â€Å"And the ones who might not make war? Would they be able to stop it? † â€Å"I don't have the foggiest idea. † â€Å"Have they at any point had the option to stop it? † â€Å"They are not sorted out to stop things and when they get composed their pioneers sell them out. † â€Å"Then it’s hopeless† (Hemingway p71). In this discourse, Henry feels as though there is nothing anybody can do to end the war. He feels as though he is stuck in it until he at long last bites the dust. He feels that it’s miserable to continue any longer if there is no indication of stopping. This kind of demeanor shows he isn't focused on the war. While Henry was conversing with the cleric, he expressed, â€Å"They were beaten to begin with†¦ put him in force and perceive how shrewd he is. † (Hemingway p179). Henry feels that the individuals that are battling with him have just lost from the beginning since it wasn’t their choice to battle. He’s recommending that the workers aren’t battling their hardest. They were constrained off there ranches and expected to battle. Henry thinks since they have just been vanquished that it is highly unlikely they are going to win the war. His mentality again shows that he isn't submitted or confident about the war. Later on when Henry is as yet conversing with the cleric they state, â€Å"I sought after quite a while for triumph. † â€Å"Me as well. † â€Å"Now I don’t know. † â€Å"It must be either. † â€Å"I don’t put stock in triumph any more. † â€Å"I don’t. Be that as it may, I don’t trust tragically. In spite of the fact that it might be better. † (Hemingway p179). Henry is stating that he doesn’t trust in Victory or thrashing, however destruction might be better. Henry accepts that the main way out of this war is through thrashing. The Germans will never surrender so the main route for the war to end is through the Italians loosing. He is sick of this war and doesn’t care who wins any longer. On the off chance that Henry was focused on this war, at that point he would remain with it until triumph is ahead. Henry’s pledge to World War I isn't authentic. He doesn’t feel like the war is going anyplace and is irritated that nobody has surrendered. He doesn’t care any longer who wins the war as long as it’s over. He is not, at this point submitted and simply needs to leave. Henry’s duty was rarely certified.

Business Plan - A New General Manager of a Company - Free Essay Example

As the new General Manager of this company, I would like to see our organization grow and expand but also preserve the value and concept of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"unique yet simpleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. I have been told that the previous manager was put off due to his inability to instill modern day management practices in this company, causing a lot of upsets among the employees and without making any profits. I had understood the wrong-doings of the previous manager, so through very deep thoughts and planning, a business management plan was a suggestion I would like to present to you. In this business plan, I had list down the steps that I will take to bring our company to an efficient and effective organization. PESTLE Using the PESTLE analysis, we can see in which area we should focus and emphasis on so that as a team we can improve on what we are lacking behind. Political factors refer to the security of the political environment and the disposition of political gatherin gs or developments. This may show in government impact on assessment strategies, or government inclusion in exchanging understandings. So far in our organization, there are no political regulations that we have not abide. As of our raw resources that we are get to produce our products, it is accessible in the countries of our factories that are being based at; India and Vietnam. As of our products such as sofas, cabinets, beds, tables, and other furniture, it is being regulated in America. Under the political factors, we need not worry so I shall not focus into too much detail. Economic factorsspeak to the more extensive economy so may incorporate financial development rates, levels of business and unemployment, expenses of crude materials, for example, vitality, petrol and steel, investment rates and money related strategies, trade rates and expansion rates. Previously, we have shortage of manpower working in the factories base in Vietnam and India, causing late production s and delivery to designated locations. What I will emphasis on is to get and hire enough employees working for us in the factories, so that our productions will be efficient and on time. The expenses we are spending on the materials, employeesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ wages, investment rates are all still within the drawn budget of what I had calculated. I shall move on to the next factor which are more of a serious issue. Legalfactors are those which have become law and regulations. This influences how an organization works, its expenses, and the interest for its items. One serious issue that I had noticed is the welfare that the employees are getting, and the employees are complaining about the welfare that were given to them is insufficient. I had also noticed that the supervisor in the factories are ill-treating our employees, causing a huge number of them resigning. It is an offence to have the employees to work more than what they were given and some of the workers in the fact ories did not have sufficient break time during work. From now on, all workers in the factories will work 8 hours a day excluding a one hour break, and if they have to work overtime, we will pay them 1.5 times more per hour of what they exceeded. Social factorsrepresent the culture of the society that an organization operates within. Theymay include demographics, age distribution, population growth rates, education level, distribution ofwealth and social classes, living conditions and lifestyle. Base on the population, there are more and more young people that are stepping into the working environment and the demand for things are higher and preferences of furniture are different as young people likes things that are modern and simple. With that said, we as a furniture company should adapt to the population and change our strategies to better suit the people. Technological factorsrefer to the rate of new inventions and development, changes in information andmobile technolog y, changes in internet and e-commerce or even mobile commerce, and governmentspending on research. There is often a tendency to focus Technological developments on digital and internet-related areas, but it should also include materials development and new methods of manufacture, distribution and logistics. The younger generations are what we are shifting our markets to and the technology advancement are moving very quickly in the today world. What will be newly implemented is that we will create a website and also an application that can be downloaded through any smartphone, and customers, preferably the young working adults, will be able to surf through the applications and browse our products. In hope we can improve and increase our profits and selling power. Environmental factorscan include issues such as limited natural resources, waste disposal and recyclingprocedures. Our furniture requires natural resources such as wood and rubber. Previously after every production, the leftovers and wastes were being disposed. Through an intense investigation, there were cases whereby the previous manager was using illegal dumping method such as throwing the waste into the river nearby. This kind of act is intolerable in our company, and what changes will there be is that we will use the wastes and leftovers to recycle them. Through this procedure, we can create an image that we are an eco-friendly furniture company. PORTERà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢S FIVE FORCES Using the porterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s five forces, we can assess the potential for profitability and the balance of power in our situation that we are facing. Supplier Power is the power of supplies to drive up the prices of inputs. The suppliers that we are working with are still able to continue their business with us. As we are working our way to creating our products into unique and simple furniture, there are no significant increase of prices. Currently we have 7 suppliers providing us, this is a large number and we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to worry about supplierà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s power. Also we have been working with them for more than 10 years, the loyalty are what hold us and them together. Buyer Power refers to the power of buyers to drive down the prices. I understand that our products prices are higher compared to the competitors that we are facing. Through thorough observations, customers were evaluating different alternatives even though our furniture designs are unique. We can see that our buyer powers are few, so what changes we can do is that we will reset and plan the prices of our furniture again base on the cost price, in order to prevent ability of dictating terms. Here you ask yourself how easy it is for buyers to drive prices down. Again, this is driven by the number of buyers, the importance of each individual buyer to your business, the cost to them of switching from your products and services to those of someone else, and so on. If you de al with few, powerful buyers, then they are often able to dictate terms to you. Competitive Rivalry refers to the strength of the rivalries that an organization is facing. We have currently 5 different competitors that are in the same market as us. In terms of prices and design, we are better in design because of the unique yet modern and simple furniture we produce. However the prices are the only thing that we have to work on to get a hold of regular customers and consistent profits. We have to work ourselves towards a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"one and onlyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ position, so that we can achieve tremendous strength among our competitors. Threat of Substitution refers to the extent to which different products and services can be used in place of your own. As we are selling furniture, it is very easy for customers to find a substitution in our place. For example, if a customer is looking for a sofa, he or she can come to us or choose an alternative such as our competito rs as they are also selling the similar products as us. We are weak in this area because substitution is viable. Threat of New Entry is the ease with which new competitors can enter the market and if possible, drive our prices down. In this area, we are stronger because of the qualities of furniture and the year and experience we have over the years. Currently there are huge economies of scale and our organization has strong and lasting barriers to entry. It is not easy for an organization to get into the market with supplies to produce furniture that provides qualities as what we do. We can preserve a strong position here and take fair advantage of it. POCL Making the best possible use of people, money, physical plant, technology, and meeting goals which sustain a competitive advantage of our company is what I want to move towards to, an efficient and effective organization. Planning involves setting future objectives and mapping out the necessary activities to achie ve objectives. I am aware that in America we are facing with a lot of competitors that are in the market selling the same product as what we are doing. However the competitors are producing products that are predictable and old fashioned. What Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve planned is that we can stand out from the market. I am setting an objective that our designs are unique and at the same time keeping it modern and simple. Also, we have to keep ourselves flexible and adaptable so that we can keep up with trends and changes among the populations. Organizing specifies on how a organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s financial, informational, physical, human, and technical resources are to be arranged and coordinated. As what I had said above about creating design that are unique yet simple, I would like to have the creative department to brainstorm and research on the designs that we can achieve. Also the marketing department can get information on our competitors, analyze on what we can d o better to stand out of the market. While the finance department can keep track on our expenses, and maintaining it on our drawn budget. Leading motivates people to contribute their best individually and in cooperation with other people. I had come up with the monthly and yearly target that are of desire. If our retailers are able to hit the monthly target given, they are entitled to get a shared commission of 2% of the profits. Whereas if they hit over 10% of what was the target, they will get another 1% on top of the profit that they had already achieved. Through this method, I hope we can motivate the employees to work harder to achieve what we had set and to further expand our market to worldwide. Controlling is to measure performance, comparing it to the objectives, implementing necessary changes and monitoring progress. So far, our stores are not hitting the desired monthly target however they are close. With the new implementation of the commission that I had men tioned above, I am confident that the stores will be able to hit or even top it off the target by exceeding 10 to 20%. Another issue I had come across is the number of customerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s complaint we are receiving. As a high end furniture company, we should provide tip-top customer services. Customers deserve a service of what they are paying for. Store manager can provide a more serious supervision of the staffs in the shop floor, and maybe brief the staffs again about the target and improve ways of serving customers. In conclusion of my business management plan, through the different analysis that I had made, predictions and decisions, I am very confident that our company can improve on our profits and making our way into a very efficient and effective organization. With the new commission reward that I had implemented, I believe our retailers and store managers can better sell our products, providing an excellent customer service so as to preserve customer loyalty. In addition, I hope with everyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s efforts, we can work our ways towards the goals and see our company grow in profits, welfare, and benefits.

My First Mistake - Original Writing - 2065 Words

For my whole life, I have been a Catholic, yet as I get older, I begin to come closer to knowing the true meaning behind saying those words. As a child, I went through the steps to fulfill my duties as a child of God, but that was my first mistake. I thought of these as just steps and chores that got me to where my parents wanted me to be. I thought it was natural, even just the norm going to CCD or mass, where I gathered with friends and family. This led me to my second mistake: neglect. Every Sunday night, I would attend CCD, but being in that classroom, reading endlessly about Jesus’ journey with his disciples, caused me to be distracted by aspects of my life that I, at the time, thought were more important. But now, as I reflect upon†¦show more content†¦This became a symbol for our family; whenever someone was sick, he would pray with his Padre Pio coin. I believed I was doing the right thing by doing what others wanted of me. I did well in school, I was an athlete year-round, and I went to CCD. I received baptism, communion, and conformation. I checked all the hypothetical boxes that needed to be checked. So now I sit here and realize, who did I check those boxes for? I checked them for everyone else but myself. Now, I love playing sports, and I wanted to become successful and someday be able to provide for a family of my own, those are my passions. However, that is where I made another mistake. I checked these boxes for the satisfaction of others, not for what I really believed in. My grandfather and mother always told me and still tell me, â€Å"I don’t care what you do in life, but just do what you makes you happy†. I have taken this statement for granted. I believe this thought is what gave James Martin the strength to remove those bandages and begin his journey down finding his true self. Precipitation Titration Mohr Method free essay sample

The chloride ion (Cl-) is an important anion found in solids and solutions. In this experiment, the amount of chloride ion in an unknown sample J (NaCl + KCl mixture) of water using the Mohr method is determined, which relies on the solubility differences of two anions and the titration endpoint of a precipitate. The net ionic reaction during the titration is as follows: Ag+ + Cl- AgCl(s) The Ksp for AgCl is 1. 8 x 10-10 and that for Ag2CrO4 is 1. 2 x 10-12. Thus, as silver ions are slowly added to solution, AgCl precipitates first, removing the chloride ions from solution. As can be inferred, Ag+ ions react with almost all chloride ions before precipitation of Ag2CrO4 begins. Thus, the secondary reaction is 2Ag+(aq) + CrO42-(aq) Ag2CrO4(s) and results in a color change from yellow to reddish-brown at the end point. Knowing the molarity of the titrant allows for calculation of the chloride concentration. Weigh out the sample (NaCl + KCl mixture) into a dry tube in a range of 0. 150 g to 0. 250 g. Dissolve the salt with water to 10 mL/15 mL/20 mL. Pipette a 5 mL aliquot of diluted salt into a 250 mL flask and add distilled to 100 mL mark. Then, add 1 mL of CrO4 indicator to the solution. Titrate the sample with silver nitrate solution. The endpoint of the titration is identified as the first appearance re-brown color of silver chromate. Important details: Silver nitrate is obtainable in primary standard purity. It has a high equivalent weight and dissolves readily in water. The solid as well as its solutions must be scrupulously protected from organic matter and from sunlight. The reagent is expensive; every effort should be made to avoid waste. Unused solutions should be collected rather than discarded; similarly, appreciable amounts of silver chloride should be collected. Mohr titrations should be performed at room temperature. Data/Calculation Molecular mass AgNO3 = 169. 87 g/mol Calculation for tube 2 of unknown: Molarity of AgNO3 = (16. 7 g)/L? Table 1 also shows the percent of Chlorine in the original sample. The percent of Chlorine varies based on the weight of the original sample and the amount of titrant used. Discussion The well known Mohr’s method in which alkaline or alkaline earth chlorides react with silver nitrate in the presence of 1 mL of Chromate as indicator is a simple and direct method for chloride determination. Since the solubility of silver chloride and silver chromate depend on temperature, all titrations were carried out at about the same temperature. Good stirring during the addition of the silver nitrate is also required for reproducible end point to ensure a homogenous mixture. Based on the color of the solution after titrating, it can be hypothesized that the equivalent point may have been surpassed due to the red color of the solution. My results are reasonable because of the percent of chlorine calculated are roughly 50% of the original sample.

Capital Punishment Has Been Part Of The Criminal Justice Essays

Capital Punishment has been part of the criminal justice system since the earliest of times. The Babylonian Hammurabi Code(ca. 1700 B.C.) decreed death for crimes as minor as the fraudulent sale of beer(Flanders 3). Egyptians could be put to death for disclosing the location of sacred burial sites(Flanders 3). However, in recent times opponents have shown the death penalty to be racist, barbaric, and in violation with the United States Constitution as "...cruel and unusual punishment." In this country, although laws governing the application of the death penalty have undergone many changes since biblical times, the punishment endures, and controversy has never been greater. A prisoner's death wish cannot grant a right not otherwise possessed. Abolitionists maintain that the state has no right to kill anyone. The right to reject life imprisonment and choose death should be respected, but it changes nothing for those who oppose the death at the hands of the state. The death penalty is irrational- a fact that should carry considerable weight with rationalists. As Albert Camus pointed out," Capital punishment....has always been a religious punishment and is reconcilable with humanism." In other words, society has long since left behind the archaic and barbous "customs" from the cruel "eye for an eye" anti-human caves of religion- another factor that should raise immediate misgivings for freethinkers. State killings are morally bankrupt. Why do governments kill people to show other people that killing people is wrong? Humanity becomes associated with murderers when it replicate their deeds. Would society allow rape as the penalty for rape or the burning of arsonists' homes as the penalty for arson? The state should never have the power to murder its subjects. To give the state this power eliminates the individual's most effective shield against tyranny of the majority and is inconsistent with democratic principles. Family and friends of murder victims are further victimized by state killings. Quite a few leaders in the abolishment movement became involved specially because someone they loved was murdered. Family of victims repeatedly stated they wanted the murderer to die. One of the main reasons- in addition to justice- was they wanted all the publicity to be over. Yet. if it wasn't for the sensationalism surrounding an execution, the media exposure would not have occurred in the first place. Murderers would be quietly and safely put away for life with absolutely no possibility for parole. The death penalty violates constitutional prohibitions against cruel and unusual punishment. The grotesque killing of Robert Harris by the state of California on April 21,1992, and similar reports of witnesses to hangings and lethal injections should leave doubt that the dying process can be- and often is-grossly inhumane, regardless of method(Flanders 16). The death penalty is often used for political gain. During his presidential gain, President Clinton rushed home for the Arkansas execution of Rickey Ray Rector, a mentally retarded, indigent black man. Clinton couldn't take the chance of being seen by voters as" soft on crime." Political Analysts believe that when the death penalty becomes an issue in a campaign, the candidate favoring capital punishment almost inevitably will benefit. Capital punishment discriminates against the poor. Although murderers come from all classes, those on death row are almost without exception poor and were living in poverty at the they were arrested. The majority of death-row inmates were or are represented by court-appointed public defenders- and the state is not obligated to provide an attorney at all for appeals beyond the state level. The application of capital punishment is racist. About 40 percent of death-row inmates are black, whereas only 8 percent of the population as a whole are black(Flanders 25). In cases with white victims, black defendants were four to six times more likely to receive death sentences than white defendants who had similar criminal histories. Studies show that the chance for a death sentence is up to five to ten times greater in cases with white victims than black victims(Flanders 25). In the criminal justice system, the life of a white person is worth more than the life of a black person. The mentally retarded are victimized by the death penalty. Since 1989, when the Supreme Court upheld killing of the mentally retarded, at least four such executions have occurred. According to the Southern Center for Human Rights, at least 10 percent of death row inmates in the United States are mentally retarded(Long 79). Juveniles are subject to the death penalty. Since state execution of juveniles also became permissible in the decision cited above, at least five people who were juveniles when their crimes were committed have executed(Long 79). Innocent people can-and have been-executed. With the death penalty errors are irreversible. According

Examples of Research Papers on Cults

Examples of Research Papers on CultsSo, you want to write examples of research papers on cults. Well you are not alone in this endeavor. Many investigators, and researchers are writing examples of research papers on cults, but as an investigator myself, I know that they are only scratching the surface of what needs to be written. For instance, I wrote an example of research paper on a covert government mind control program. It was a very interesting thing to do, and I think I did a very good job of it. In fact, I submitted it for publication, and the article is written right now. As an added bonus, I am a member of a private cult awareness group, and am proud to share my expertise in cult awareness. However, all of these examples of research papers on cults can be found anywhere from the local bookstore to Amazon. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much difference between the two sites. The articles are the same (which is probably to be expected, given the simple nature of the piece s), but the formatting is quite different.I will end up having to pay someone to reprint my work, which isn't something I want to have to do, and usually gets in the way of sharing more detailed and important information on cult information and the dangers of cults. Even then, most often the articles on cults on Amazon are more easily read than articles published on bookstores. Not only do we have to contend with the fact that the internet has made things easier for everyone, but it has also made them much more expensive. This is the opposite of the old days, when you could find everything at bookstores for less than a night's stay in a five star hotel. Now, the prices on Amazon are obscene, and the information is better researched and more comprehensive.Luckily, there are a number of sites on the internet that offer resources on research papers on cults. Most of these websites will provide a link back to their website, so that interested parties will be able to purchase their resear ch as well. These websites are far better than anything you'll find at the local bookstore, because the websites know exactly where to go in order to sell their products.Although they may not be the only source for information on research papers on cults, the websites offer plenty of articles that are worth your time and money. They will also give you tips on how to write a good research paper on cults. With their help, you will be able to write an excellent and complete research paper on any topic.Take a minute and think about the many methods available to you if you are an investigator, or even just someone who wants to write an example of research papers on cults. Remember, there is no such thing as too much information on a subject, so you need to grab it all and get writing. These websites are waiting for you.

Web Scraping Research Papers

Web Scraping Research PapersResearch papers can be broken down into two basic categories - web scraping and submission. Web scraping involves taking information and items from various resources, writing a summary of that information, and then using that summary to answer the question at hand. Submission, on the other hand, involves entering information and items from various resources into a document. Both of these are work-based methods but have their differences. While submission requires processing the information, web scraping can involve doing no processing. Therefore, web scraping research papers have a slightly higher level of complexity. For starters, web scraping has a few more requirements than submission. First, the amount of information to be scraped is more than for submission. Secondly, the amount of time and effort to do the job is also greater. The resulting information may be different for each different person, and may not have been fully evaluated before being submit ted.The process of gathering the information to use in research papers, on the other hand, is a lot easier. No processing is required, and you only need a computer with internet access. The information can be found in any number of different places. An article, book, online report, or video may contain enough information to compile a paper.Web scraping research papers have been around for quite some time, though they were usually not as user-friendly as submission. They were also generally very difficult to write. With the development of the internet, however, the level of difficulty has dropped significantly.Web scraping is now one of the easiest types of research papers to write, with most websites offering sample documents you can download and edit at your leisure. Some also offer templates to help you out. This type of paper also benefits from having a template to follow. The templates make it easy to have your research paper ready in a few hours, so you can submit it right away to publishers can do the same. Research papers for a variety of different publishers will be accepted, and you can usually expect to pay less for this type of paper. If you are interested in developing your career in the academic world, you should consider a web scraping research papers. In fact, if you want to move up in the ranks, all you need to do is spend some time studying the papers already written and begin collecting information for your own research paper.

German Keyboards

German Keyboards QWERTZ versus QWERTY Isnt the Only Problem! The topic is computer keyboards and cyber cafes overseas-especially in Austria, Germany, or Switzerland. We recently returned from several weeks in Austria and Germany. For the first time, we had an opportunity to use computers there-not my own laptop, but computers both in Internet or  cyber cafes  and at the home of friends. We have long known that foreign keyboards are different from the North American variety, but on this trip  we also learned that knowing and using are two different things. We used both Macs and PCs in the United Kingdom, Austria, and Germany. It was a rather confusing experience at times. Familiar keys were nowhere to be found or located in an entirely new place on the keyboard. Even in the U.K.  We discovered the truth about the George Bernard Shaw  adage that England and America are two countries separated by the same language. Once-familiar letters and symbols were now strangers. New keys appeared where they should not be. But that was just in Great Britain. Lets concentrate on the German-language keyboard (or actually its two varieties). A German  keyboard  has a QWERTZ layout, i.e., the Y and Z keys are reversed in comparison with the U.S.-English QWERTY layout. In addition to the normal letters of the English alphabet, German keyboards add the three umlauted vowels and the sharp-s characters of the German alphabet. The ess-tsett (ß) key is to the right of the 0 (zero) key. (But this letter is missing on a Swiss-German keyboard, since the ß is not used in the Swiss variation of German.) The u-umlaut (à ¼) key is located just to the right of the P key. The o-umlaut (à ¶) and a-umlaut () keys are on the right of the L key. This means, of course, that the symbols or letters that an American is used to finding where the umlauted letters are now, turn up somewhere else. A touch-typist is starting to go nuts now, and even a hunt-and-peck person is getting a headache. And just where the heck is that key? Email happens to depend on it rather heavily, but on the German keyboard, not only is it NOT at the top of the 2 key, it seems to have vanished entirely!-Which is pretty odd considering that the at sign even has a name in German:  der Klammeraffe(lit., clip/bracket monkey). My German friends patiently showed me how to type -and it wasnt pretty. You have to press the Alt Gr key plus Q to make appear in your document or email address. On most European-language keyboards, the right Alt key, which is just to the right of the space bar and different from the regular Alt key on the left side, acts as a Compose key, making it possible to enter many non-ASCII characters. That was on a PC. For the Macs at the  Cafe Stein in Vienna  (Whringerstr. 6-8, Tel. 43 1 319 7241), they had printed out the rather complex formula for typing and stuck it in front of each computer. All this slows you down for a while, but it soon becomes normal and life goes on. Of course, for Europeans using a North American keyboard, the problems are reversed, and they must get used to the weird U.S. English configuration. Now for some of those computer terms in German-terms that you will seldom find in most German-English dictionaries. Although computer terminology in German is often international (der Computer, der Monitor, die Diskette), other words such as  Akku  (rechargeable battery),  Festplatte(hard drive),  speichern  (save), or  Tastatur  (keyboard) are less easy to decipher.   Foreign Keyboards Internet Cafe Links Cyber Cafes - WorldwideFrom CyberCafe.com.
